OLIVER Johnson from Holmes Chapel won the Junior Achiever award at the Everybody Junior Awards.

Children aged five to 11 were recognised at the annual awards, which were presented at Holmes Chapel Community Centre for inspirational effort and contribution to local sporting success.

Kerry Shea, director at Everybody Sport and Recreation said: “The Junior Awards get better every year, and it’s amazing to see how many talented children we have in Cheshire East.

“Oliver has always been dedicated to sport, and since competing his achievements have been amazing.

“So far he has won all of his sprints with personal bests, and set the season record for his club's age-group at javelin.

“However most impressive has been his change in attitude to long distance – he never moans and always puts his passion into everything.

“His recent injuries and setbacks are what made the judges pick him as a winner.

“His mindset and ability to overcome issues at such a young age was what made him stand out as a clear winner.”

This year almost 100 nominations were received over seven award categories, and this year’s ceremony was sponsored by XN Leisure, SAS Daniels and Holmes Chapel Parish Council.
