MEET Ellie, the four-year-old girl ,who despite health struggles, pushed herself to do a sponsored walk for Children in Need.

Elie Leyland Carter, from St Helens town centre, has a limp and uses a walking aid in school.

She is being tested for muscular cerebral palsy, but this does not stop her from doing what she wants to do.

Her proud mum Kay organised for Ellie to take part in a sponsored walk for Red Nose Day in March.

Since then she has been asking her mum to do more for “Pudsey and the children” and suggested another trek for charity.

Her mum Kay Mather, 30, said: “I had a difficult birth with Ellie, which has left her with small seizures, called focal seizures, which, now she’s got a bit bigger mostly, affects her hands.

“She also has a distinctive walk. She is much smaller than others her age and is currently being tested for muscular cerebral palsy and has physiotherapy.

“But there is nothing wrong with that little girl’s mind and when she sets her mind to something she wants to do it.

“We decided to raise money for Children in Need and walk around Taylor Park pond.

“It doesn’t seem much to others, but to Ellie that’s a huge thing and quite the distance for a young girl who struggles to walk.”

The Parish Primary student did it though, and raised £361 for Children in Need in the process.

An emotional Kay, who works at TK Maxx, added: “Ellie makes me really proud anyway, but for someone so little, with her struggles as well, to decide to do this is amazing.
“She calls it Pudsey Day but she just likes knowing she is helping other children.”
