RESIDENTS in Wilmslow and Handforth paid their respects to the town’s fallen heroes on Sunday morning.

Remembrance Day parades and services were held in both towns, with large numbers of people, young and old, attending the commemorations to remember those who died in their country’s service.

The parades were blessed with fine weather, and the Wilmslow parade assembled at the Royal British Legion on Grove Avenue before forming up under the control of the Parade Marshall.

The parade includes RBL members, civic dignitaries, Army Cadets, Air Cadets, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows.

The parade made its way to St Bartholomew’s Church for a service at 10am, and following the service everyone made their way to the Memorial Gardens for the laying of wreaths and the two-minute Silence.

This year the Salute was taken on Grove Street as the parade returned to Grove Avenue.

This year’s Remembrance Day parade in Handforth featured 1,000 people, and started from Handforth Youth Centre to St Chad’s Church, where a service was held, led by the Reverend Steve Burmester.

Following the service the parade reformed before making its way to the Handforth war memorial in Wilmslow Road for a wreath-laying ceremony and Silence.

This year’s parade was organised by Handforth Parish Council, and was led by the Manchester Phoenix Pipe Band, who are All England champions.

Pictures from the Wilmslow and Handforth commemorations were submitted by Maxine Hornby, Wilmslow Town Council and Rob Sawyer.
