WEAVERHAM is set to bloom in the springtime after a number of bulbs were planted along the side of the road.

Organised by Weaverham Trust, 65 metres of mixed spring bulbs have been planted on either side of Northwich Road up to the old ICI railway bridge.

Consisting of a mixture of early flowering yellow narcissi, late flowering white narcissi, cammassia and purple allium, the plants will bloom continuously from February until June.

And as well as improving the appearance of the village, the flowers will provide extra biodiversity and food for bees, butterflies and other insects.

The bulbs were purchased thanks to funds from the trust and money received from the Co-op Community Fund.

This involved members of the Co-op selecting Weaverham Trust as a beneficiary to receive a donation equivalent to one per cent of purchases from the supermarket.

It is hoped that the project will support Councillor Gillian Edwards’ initiative to plant wildflower beds across the Cheshire West and Chester Borough.

Weaverham Trust are proposing to undertake further plantings in future years as more funds become available.
