GOOSTREY Community Primary School’s annual exhibition began in technological style with a drone flying over the school to introduce this year’s theme of inventions.

Cheshire East Mayor Barry Burkill and Mayoress Sue Bidwell opened the two-day event by agreeing with the children that we have lots to thank inventors for over the centuries.

The children have studied inventions from Ancient Greece through to pioneers in medicine and space, how robots have changed the way we live, the ways we have listened to music and right up to date with innovations of sustainable sources of cups and plates.

Each year group displayed their work for their families and the community to come and view, and performed songs and poems about their discoveries.

The children were also treated to visitors, including metal sculptor Jo Risley and Mark Haig of Gizmobots, who worked with the children to make their robots.

Gary and Edwina Darlow - Gary is a five times national champion farrier - showed the children how to make horseshoes, and Andi, the owner of Cheshire Dining Experience, demonstrated how he uses sustainable and compostable materials in his cooking.

Headteacher Lyndsey Atkins said: “We are always very proud of our exhibitions and what the children learn and achieve. It’s wonderful to invite the community into our school and share this experience with us.”
