ST Oswald’s Church in Lower Peover is hosting an exhibition of ‘The Knitted Bible’ from November 8 to 11, 10am to 4pm on Friday, Saturday and Monday, and 2pm to 5pm on Sunday.

The exhibition was created by the congregation and friends of St George’s United Reform Church, Hartlepool.

It has 33 knitted scenes depicting the best-known stories in The Bible, including Noah’s Ark, Moses and the Ten Commandments, and Jesus is Born.

Members of the congregation at St George’s started knitting at the end of February 2008, when they only intended to create the scene of ‘The Last Supper’, but, enthusiasm and imagination, combined to make them more ambitious.

The exhibition is being shown in churches throughout the UK over the next two years, and it is hoped everyone who sees the scenes will understand and enjoy them, and may even discover detail they had forgotten or never noticed before.
