The Hayhurst Quay marina was evacuated early on Sunday morning.

A multi-agency response was in force overnight, with firefighters among those in attendance.

Six crews attended, with two from Northwich, one from Winsford, one from Widnes, one from Warrington and one from Lymm.

Swift water crews attended with nearby residents and pets evacuated due to the rising water level.

The leisure centre was opened to accommodate up to 20 people from the Marina.

A 65-year-old man was rescued from the water and handed into the care of paramedics and another man was taken to hospital believed to be suffering from hypothermia.

An Environment Agency spokesman said on Sunday afternoon: "River levels have peaked at Hayhurst Bridge river gauge as a result of persistent rainfall.
