MANY of the roads in mid-Cheshire that were closed due to flooding have reopened this morning, Monday.

Flood warnings that were also put in place along the River Weaver have also been removed, however some still remain and locals are told to prepare for the risk of further flooding.

Rail links across the county appear to be back to normal after the mid Cheshire line was disrupted over the weekend due to flooding in Chester.

Acton Lane in Acton Bridge remains closed both ways from the A49 Warrington Road to Strawberry Lane.

Cheshire East Council has said that it has been able to reopen many of the roads that were closed overnight, however Peover Lane in Chelford also remains closed.

Styal Road in Wilmslow has now reopened under temporary traffic signal control for safety in the vicinity of Twinnies Bridge.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys.

Pendleton Way in Wilmslow has also now reopened, as has the A34 Melrose Way in Alderley Edge between Congleton Road, Nether Alderley and The Merlin Roundabout.

Flood warnings are no longer in place along the River Weaver in Anderton, Winsford and Nantwich.

The Government’s flood information service website says: “This Flood Warning has been removed. River levels have now fallen below the flood risk threshold.

“However, a Flood Alert remains in force for the wider area, so flooding may still affect roads and low-lying land.

“No further rainfall is forecast. We will continue to monitor the situation. Please stay aware of your surroundings.”

Flood warnings have also been removed in Acton Bridge, Weaverham, Sutton Dock, Pickerings Bridge a d Shrewbridge Lodge as river levels have now fallen below the flood risk threshold.

Incident response staff are continuing to monitor the situation.

Flood alerts remain in place in Weaver catchment areas of Northwich, Winsford, Frodsham, Crewe and Nantwich.

These state that flooding is still possible and that people in the area should be prepared.

“River levels have now peaked at Hayhurst Bridge river gauge, however river levels remain high and flooding is still possible for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Weaver, Ducklow and Wheelock and their tributaries,” the flood information service adds.

“Flood Warnings remain in force for Nantwich and Anderton.

“Our incident response staff continue to monitor weather forecasts and river levels and will issue further updates if necessary.

“Please be aware of your surroundings and avoid contact with flood water.”
