GROUND survey works will start at Knights Grange in two weeks as Cheshire FA plans to build a world class sports facility in Winsford.

Exploratory work will begin on site on Monday, November 4.

Over the past few months the association, along with its development partner ION Developments, has undertaken significant preliminary survey work for the unique venture.

Cheshire FA is now close to determining the location of the proposed buildings such as the hotel and nursery.

In order to progress the feasibility stage, Cheshire FA, Cheshire West and Chester Council and ION have now given the green light for a significant ground survey to be completed.

Stuart Manifould, project director, said: “It has been a while since we provided a significant update on our proposed development, so I’m really excited that things are moving forward.

“This ground information is critical if we are to formalise our plans and share them with this amazing community. I’ve been humbled by the reaction and well wishes of the community and I’ve been privileged to meet some local residents while in and around Winsford.

“I would ask that the community bear with us a little longer while we undertake this vital survey and as soon as the results are shared with us, we will be able to disclose our final plans. We will do everything in our power to minimise disruption to local residents. In the meantime, thank you for your patience and thank you again for your fantastic support!”

Engineering contractor Curtins will undertake the works, using large-scale equipment to investigate conditions below the surface.

Rob Mason, development director at ION, said “We have made excellent progress with the site at Knights Grange, with initial surveys, highway works and site investigation all looking very positive.

“The engineering survey will help complete the feasibility process, which is a major steppingstone to the delivery of this very exciting and important development for Cheshire.”

CWAC leader Cllr Louise Gittins added: “The ground survey and additional works completed at Knights Grange shows Cheshire FA is progressing its plans to bring this impressive sporting facility to Winsford.

“If this project continues to progress and the plans are ultimately approved, it will be a great asset to the community and support the council’s efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents of all ages.

“We want to make sport accessible for all and increase the number of people who are able to access grassroots football and other sports.

“The council will assist Cheshire FA over the coming months, where possible, as it develops its ambitious plans for a project which will benefit the residents of Winsford and the whole borough once completed.”
