A TRAILER for the BBC’s new War of the Worlds TV drama, which was partially filmed in Great Budworth, has been released.

Film crews descended on the village in April last year and transported it back to the Edwardian era as aliens attack from the skies.

Ahead of the three-part drama’s release this Autumn, the BBC has revealed some of the clips which will make up the series showing characters running in terror.

And as scenes shot in Great Budworth can be seen, villagers will be looking forward to the show’s release in the coming months.

Set in Edwardian England, the drama is the latest in a number of adaptations of H.G. Wells' famous novel, which is the first alien invasion story in literature.

Critics say that this new show will closely follow Wells' original work, unlike previous incarnations which took the story out of its original time period and setting.

War of the Worlds will feature Poldark star Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Robert Carlyle, whose previous roles include T2:Trainspotting.

Northwich Guardian:

Speaking about the drama, director Craig Viveiros said: “H.G. Wells' seminal novel has been adapted for the screen many times but it has always had a contemporary and American setting.

“This is the first version to be set in London and the Home Counties during the Edwardian period.

“We aim to provide a thrill ride for the audience, delivering an alien invasion story that will shock and awe audiences across the globe.”

Although no definitive release date has been announced, the BBC say it should land on our TV screens some time this Autumn before the Christmas period.
