A TEENAGER has suffered serious injuries during a hit and run in the town centre.
Eyewitnesses reported a huge emergency services presence on Academy Way shortly after 8pm last night, Thursday.
Police have today confirmed that a 16-year-old girl was hit by a car, and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the collision, but officers have since arrested a 23-year-old man from Warrington on suspicion of a section 18 assault in connection with the incident.
He remains in custody this afternoon.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 8pm on Thursday, October 10, officers were called to reports of a collision on Academy Way.
“Officers attended the scene and found there had been a collision between a car and a 16-year-old girl.
“She was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“The driver of the car fled the scene.
“A 23-year-old local man has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault in connection with the incident.
“He is currently being questioned in connection with the incident.”
