DOZENS of mums came along to say a fond farewell to an ‘awesome’ club as it held a goodbye party at The Unico Lounge in Wilmslow.

Yesterday’s (Thursday) event was the last organised by the Awesome Mums’ Brunch Club, which was started by Wilmslow mum Alexandra Clinton three years ago.

Alexandra suffered severe post-natal anxiety when her daughter Roxy was born, and launched the club to help reduce the stigma around perinatal mental health.

However three years on Alexandra decided to call it a day because of the demands of a job and looking after Roxy, and invited mums to come along to yesterday’s drop-in event.

She said: “We had a lovely morning, with about 25 mums attending.

“It was great as we had new mums, second and third-time mums and some grandmas coming along, so it was a lovely show of peer support for mums at every stage of the parenting journey.

“We raised well over £100, all of which will be going to Smile Group.

“We also had, Noelle, one of the family support workers from the Oakenclough Children’s Centre in Wilmslow, come along and help make sure attendees were aware of other support services and groups which were available now the club is finishing.

“She also brought and gave out some fab free books for little ones to enjoy.

“I didn’t realise when I arranged this event that October 10 is World Mental Health Awareness Day, so it seems fitting that we should have our goodbye party on a day that embodies the main reason the club was created.

“It’s so important that people keep openly talking about their mental well-being, especially in the face of such a life-changing event as becoming a parent.”
