1st Knutsford Scouts has received a £1,000 boost from Toft Taverners towards its new purpose-built HQ, which is to be built on the Moor in Knutsford.

The Toft Taverners is a charity cricket team, based at Toft Cricket Club on Chelford Road, which funds an annual seaside trip for the over-70s of Knutsford.

Keith Knowles and Paul Raffo, chairman and captain respectively of Toft Taverners, joined Group Scout Leader Rob Allen and Cub Scout Leaders Jonathan Hills and Sharon Caldwell for the cheque presentation to the Scout group.

The children were also interested to hear about the vision for Toft Cricket Club and new building planned for the near future.

A Scout group spokesman said: “1st Knutsford Scouts have now cleared the site ready for the foundations and erection of the new purpose-built, open-plan, multi-functional vaulted building which is being prepared off site.

“It is anticipated that foundations and construction should be under way before Christmas, with more than £200,000 raised to date and donated from local fundraising and grants.

“However additional funds are still required for 1st Knutsford Scouts to kit out the inside of the new Scout, Guides and community building.

“1st Knutsford Scouts are currently meeting on different sites across Knutsford and the surrounding area, with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers and more than 500 children attending Knutsford Scouts.

“1st Knutsford Scouts would like to thank Toft Taverners and all the local community for ongoing support and Rob McGinnes of Hive Architects Knutsford for guiding the Scouts through the process and amazing plans.”
