ABI Gleave from Wilmslow is one of the inspirational young people from across the north west set to receive an award at The Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense North West Awards this week.
The awards are being held tomorrow, Wednesday, at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester.
Abi, 20, the North West HSBC UK Breakthrough award winner, entered the care system when she was nine and stayed there until she was 16.
A Prince’s Trust spokesman said: “Social services recommended that Abi visit a work coach at the local Job Centre, which proved to be a vital step as she was referred on to The Prince’s Trust.
“She joined the Team programme, which builds the confidence and skills of unemployed young people aged 16 to 25 so they are better equipped to find work.
“Although Abi was nervous and joined a Team group of all boys, she got stuck into the Team programme and encouraged other participants to overcome their fears.
“She left Team with a different outlook on life and feels more settled.”
The Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense Awards recognise the achievements of young people who have succeeded against the odds, improved their chances in life, and had a positive impact on their local community, as well as those who have played a part in supporting the work of The Trust.
