EVERYONE’S favourite festive characters will share the spotlight with LED light performers, schoolchildren and Santa in a new Christmas parade for Knutsford for 2019.

The Santa Parade is to replace the Reindeer Parade which has taken place every year as part of the Christmas Weekend celebrations, alongside the Christmas markets and lights switch-on.

The town council agreed reindeer should not be booked for this year’s parade after discussing a report detailing welfare concerns raised by the public and the cost of hiring the reindeer.

This year spectators can expect to see a festive spectacle featuring LED light performers from Travelling Light Circus, (travellinglightcircus.com/fire-and-glow-shows), performers from South Manchester who will wow the crowd with their light-up props and costumes.

The performers will be followed by primary schoolchildren accompanied by all your favourite Christmas characters acted out by Knutsford Little Theatre actors.

Expect to see Christmas puddings, crackers, penguins, a Christmas tree and Rudolph before Santa appears in his sleigh.

Santa’s sleigh will be towed by a Bentley supplied in partnership with Total Vehicle Leasing, a leasing company on Adams Hill in Knutsford which has sponsored the parade this year by organising Santa’s transport.

Santa and a competition winner will wave to the crowd from his sleigh as the parade makes its way up King Street and Minshull Street before arriving in Canute Place.

The crowd can then enjoy an on-stage performance from the LED lights troupe before Santa joins the Mayor on stage to light up Knutsford for the festive season.

Alex Brown, one of the event organisers from Knutsford Town Council, said: “We’re really excited to bring the new Santa Parade to our popular Christmas Weekend in 2019.

“This year we have really built the parade up into a fun festive spectacle for all to enjoy.

“We’re thrilled to have community involvement from the children at Bexton Primary School and actors from Knutsford Little Theatre as a true community celebration of the Christmas season.

“Though we won’t have the real-life reindeer this year we know the parade will be more exciting than ever and can’t wait to see it in action.”
