THE renovation of a petrol station in Sandiway is set to be approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Plans for the Shell garage at the Oakmere crossroads propose to demolish the existing sales building, which would be rebuilt and increased in size.

An additional exit on Chester Road would be created solely for HGV vehicles and the current HGV fuel dispenser would be moved.

A recommendation for planning chiefs to approve the plans was submitted within the officer’s report document.

This goes against a recommendation made by Cuddington Parish Council to reject the proposals on the grounds that site activity would be brought closer to neighbours, causing adverse noise and nuisance.

Seven letters of objection were also submitted by residents, who raised concerns over the congestion that could be created and an increase in noise, dust and light pollution.

Residents also cited the risk of anti-social behaviour from drivers who use the site.

In response, the officer’s report states that the council’s Environmental Protection Unit has ruled that the proposal would not result in a ‘significant rise’ in noise, air light pollution.

It also adds: “The redesign of the site would allow for improved vehicle movement, more specifically for HGVs that utilise the site.

“There is no reason to think that the proposed changes would give rise to any anti-social behaviour, including the discarding of rubbish.”

If approved, work must start on the site within three years.
