IF YOU'RE looking for ways to while away the first Sunday afternoon in October, how about listening to a mix of poetry, storytelling and music about the memories of renowned local author Alan Garner?

This is a unique opportunity to hear some of Alan’s memoirs of growing up in Cheshire brought to life.

Celebrated as the author of The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and 12 other books for children and adults, Alan’s fascinating account of his wartime boyhood in Alderley Edge, and which local yarns and legends inspired his writing, is a wonderful look back to a bygone rural age.

The afternoon show, from 3pm on Sunday, October 6 in St Luke’s Church, Goostrey, celebrates the publication of Goostrey-based Alan Garner’s memoir Where Shall We Run To?, and is part of Goosfest 2019.

It’s a collaboration between storyteller Nick Hennessey and musician and composer John Dipper, with script development support from Alan’s daughter Elizabeth, a novelist and editor.

Tickets for this special afternoon, entitled Over and Nether, are £15, available from goosfest.com
