AN annual charity golf day has raised tens of thousands of pounds for children with cerebral palsy.

More than £38,000 was raised at the event held at Colne Valley Golf Club in Earls Colne by funeral directors Daniel Robinson and Sons.

All the funds raised by the 34 teams which took part in the golf day are being used to pay for specialist private physiotherapy to help children in the area.

This physiotherapy is not available through the NHS, but it gives the children the opportunity to increase their mobility, helping to equip them to lead more independent lives.

Over the past few years, four youngsters have benefitted from the funds including 14-year-old Lyncoln Street, of Halstead, Summer Andrews, eight, of Braintree, Lenny Pyne, 11, of Halstead, and ten-year-old Aiden Thomas, from Haverhill.

While Lenny, Lyncoln, Aiden and Summer are making good progress, this year the company has pledged to help a further two children.

Sid Pledger, nine, and Nat Lambert, four, will also now be able to benefit from the physiotherapy with specialist company, Kids Physio Works.

Gary Neill, managing director at Daniel Robinson and Sons, said he is delighted with the funds raised.

He said: “This money will make a huge difference to the lives of these children and to their families’ lives.

“While our team work hard to co-ordinate and deliver the day, we couldn’t do any of this without the generosity of companies who donate items and the players who come and give so generously.”

In 2016, the event raised £40,000 for Lenny to go towards his intensive physiotherapy and he made so much progress, he was able to walk unaided to the front of the stage to hand out prizes to winners.
