FIVE pubs in the Northwich area have been named in the 2020 edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

The independent guide, compiled by the Campaign for Real Ale, is now in its 47th edition, with all entries selected and checked by branch volunteers based on nothing but quality.

In all, some 4,500 of the best pubs and clubs across the the country are featured – as well as a unique breweries section detailing all of the UK's real ale breweries.

In the Vale Royal and Warrington areas, selection of pubs is made by members of the North Cheshire branch of CAMRA.

The area encompasses around 300 different pubs, of which only the very best 18 will be awarded a coveted place in the guide, all selected by multiple visits throughout the year by CAMRA members who assess the quality of the real ale being served.

A pub can't even be considered unless it has attracted at least 20 different scores from at least five different people, so pubs who are selected can be justifiably proud of continually demonstrating that they are at the top of their game.

In the town centre, The Salty Dog and Baron's Lounge made the list, joined by The Lion Hotel in Moulton, Davenham Cricket Club, and the Egerton Arms in Little Budworth.

Gary Chester of North Cheshire CAMRA said: "We chose to hold our launch event at Baron’s Lounge, a fantastic micro-pub in Witton Street awarded an entry this year for the very first time having opened its doors in 2017 – a truly fantastic achievement."
