A GARAGE was destroyed in a fire.
Six fire engines were called to the car workshop behind which is behind the Texaco petrol station in Copthorne Road, Crawley at about 2am on Sunday but were unable to save the building.
Crews from East Grinstead, Crawley, Horsham, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and Lancing tried to put out the flames.
Crews remained at the scene throughout yesterday morning continuing to damp down the smouldering remains.
Six fire engines were initially sent to the scene and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service advised residents to keep their windows and doors closed.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said “A single story building was 100% destroyed by fire.
“The building was a car workshop.”
