WEST Yorkshire Police are appealing for information after a man was found seriously injured in Queensbury, with two people arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving as a result.

One resident said she had heard from a farmer that it was a local walker who had been badly hurt in the incident, and that he had broken both of his legs.

Police have confirmed that they were called to a report of a seriously injured male at 7.01pm yesterday.

He had been found in Roper Lane, close to the junction with Halifax Road.

Road closures were put in place while the male, who is thought to be in his thirties, was taken to hospital by land ambulance and police officers made enquiries to establish the circumstances.

He remains in hospital this morning where his condition is said to be stable.

Following enquiries overnight, two people have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and are currently in custody. A vehicle has also been recovered for examination.

Speaking to the T&A, local resident Lauren Kemp said: "I live in White Castle Court, which is just under Roper Lane, so I had view of everything that happened bar the actual incident occurring.

"I'd heard the helicopter fly over the house and saw it land on Roper Lane.

"Two paramedics came out and dealt with the casualty. The helicopter flew off straight away and didn't come back.

"There were around six police cars, and one police van, which left but came back later on once the ambulance had left with the casualty.

"I saw four normal cars that were held up with it all - which is why I thought it was a crash to start off with.

"I was told by a local farmer that it had been a hit and run on a walker and he has both legs broken and other serious injuries."

John Treacy is the general manager of The Raggalds pub, which backs on to Roper Lane.

He said: "The staff and I didn't see anything, other than the police and ambulance.

"All we know is what we've heard from the police, that it was a hit and run and they were there until about half past midnight."

Speaking about the crash site, which is at a bend in the road on Roper Lane, he added: "I wouldn't walk up there myself.

"There's bits of pavement but it's in sections as it's quite hilly there.

"They'd have to drag the pavement back to resolve the problem.

"I'd always go the other way."

Enquiries are continuing into this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 1615 of 20 August, or use the reporting options on the West Yorkshire Police website.

Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
