THE Northwich parkrun community have come together this week in memory of Terry Murphy, who sadly passed away on Saturday.

A councillor for Northwich Town Council and an avid parkrunner, the 79-year-old sadly took his last breath on the course during his regular Saturday morning run.

Emergency procedures were carried out, but sadly there was nothing more that could be done to help.

And parkrun volunteers, as well as Terry’s friends and family, have now organised a special tribute run on Saturday and set up a donation page to fund a park bench in his memory.

“We decided to dedicate Saturday’s special parkrun in memory of Terry and are expecting a large number of people to join us,” said parkrun organiser Amy Lockett.

“The plan is to walk the course in a time of 45 minutes, as this is the time that it usually took Terry to finish, and remember how great a man he was while doing it.

“A Go Fund Me page has also been set up by his friends and family so that people can donate towards a memorial bench to remember him by.

“We’ve had so many messages saying how great a person he was and asking how to donate, so it would be great if we could secure this bench in memory of him.”

A tribute was also issued on behalf of the Northwich parkrun team, who added: “Terry was one of the family and one of us.

“He was a keen runner since the parkrun started and his loss will leave a huge hole that cannot be filled.

“Hopefully on Saturday, we can all come together and regroup in memory of Terry.”

Terry’s parkrun will be held on Saturday, starting at 9am in Carey Park.

Everyone is welcome to attend what will be a celebration of Terry’s life, but those planning on participating must sign up to the parkrun here.

A minute silence beforehand was originally planned, but due to his football roots, it has been deemed that a minute applause and cheer will be more appropriate.

Friends of Terry will also be at the start and finish lines with collection buckets for the memorial park bench.

Those wishing to donate towards the memorial bench can do so via his Go Fund Me page here.
