THE driver of a HGV had to be extracted from his vehicle after a crash on the M56 eastbound yesterday, Thursday.
Three fire engines from Penketh, Widnes and Runcorn were called to reports of the accident shortly before 6pm between junction 10 for Stretton and junction 9 for Lymm
On arrival at the scene, fire crews found a HGV carrying wooden pallets that had been severely damaged at the front following a road traffic collision.
The driver was trapped in the lorry and had to be extricated by firefighters, who dealt with the incident for 30 minutes.
He was then handed into the care of paramedics.
