A HORSE has been rescued by fire crews after becoming stuck in a brook in Penketh.

Shortly before 2pm on Tuesday, teams from Warrington, Lymm and Bollington fire stations were dispatched after receiving reports of a stranded animal in Whittle Brook off Grange Drive.

On arrival, the animal rescue unit discovered a 10-year-old horse weighing approximately half a tonne stuck in the shallow water and mud.

A vet was been called to aid the rescue effort and the horse, named George, was partially sedated.

Using rope rescue straps and a tractor to lift the animal, it was released from the water and is now safe and sound.

In a tweet, Lymm Fire Station said: “Here is the grateful and beautiful George who we rescued yesterday from a sludgy wet ditch in Penketh.

Warrington Guardian:

“Thank you to Taz the Vet, the owners and everyone who worked well together.

“He is now safe and sound in his stable.”

This is the second time in recent weeks that firefighters have been called to help stranded animals, after Biggles the horse was saved from a ditch in Croft.
