The Old Red Lion pub will host a Psychic Evening on Thursday, August 22, when a respected psychic will be on hand to give individual readings to attendees.

General Manager of the London Road pub, James Crichton, said: “Tickets are now available for the visit of Eleanor Grace, a leading psychic medium from London, which we are sure will be very popular with local residents.”

“It is very apt for The Old Red Lion to host such an evening in our programme of community events, as the former coaching inn has a very rich and spooky history.

“There are reports of ghostly sightings of both a wandering nun and a man of authority along the upstairs corridors.

“When Mitchells & Butlers PLC purchased the pub in 2001, they had to remove a number of human coffins from under the front of the pub – which is perhaps not so surprising considering its proximity to St Luke’s church and its graveyard.”

The pub not only survived the Great Fire of Holmes Chapel of 1745 but also features a Grade 2 Jacobite inscription in one of its first-floor windows.

James said: “We pride ourselves on being a community pub and are happy to encourage various groups in the village to use it as a meeting place.

“I was pleased, for example, to take part in a Murder Mystery drama at the pub recently, written and performed by one such group, the Holmes Chapel U3A Creative Writing Group.

“We are now planning to build on this by hosting a community panto at the pub this Christmas.”
