YOU don't have to be an Olympian to be part of Team GB - and Penketh Pool is opening its doors to celebrate the Nation's Biggest Sports Day for free.

All members of the community are invited to go and swim, and become part of Team GB during this national, televised event.

Penketh Pool members are hopeful the event will be featured during the ITV programme and they have been promised a visit by a famous Olympic athlete, one of the biggest names in British sport, who has won four individual gold medals.

A spokesperson for Penketh Pool said: "At Penketh Pool we have really embraced this national event and want to put on the very best event for our community of all ages at absolutely no cost to anyone, and provide everyone with a fantastic experience and the opportunity to become part of Team GB.

"As Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford says, ‘you don’t have to be an Olympian to be part of Team GB', and we want as many people in Penketh, Great Sankey, Chapelford, Whittle Hall and all areas of Warrington to have the opportunity to come in and swim, play badminton and table tennis and become automatically selected as a member of Team GB.

"We will also have some events going on at Penketh library at the same time, and in 2020 as it is an Olympic year we have bigger plans to host our own Penketh Mini Olympic Games, with promise of help from Team GB."

Although it is the Challenge Cup Final on the same day, everyone can swim, take part in other activities and still be home in time to watch the Wembley showdown.

The swim will take place between 9am and 11am on Saturday, August 24 and for everyone who takes part, a free play pool from 11.30am-1pm will be on offer.

Everyone who can swim more than one length will also receive either a bronze, silver or gold I am Team GB certificate.

There will also be free 30 minute badminton and table tennis sessions between 9am and 1pm.
