MOTORISTS are being asked to avoid the Styal Road area of Wilmslow because of the River Dean bursting its banks.
Cheshire East highways tweeted: "Gang are currently on route to close Styal Road, Wilmslow due to the River Dean banks bursting, please avoid the area."
The bridge over the River Dean in Styal Road
Quarry Bank is closed today (Wednesday) due to flooding. The National Trust property is asking people to keep an eye on its website and social media channels for updates.
There are also several roads across Cheshire East (see picture below) with flooding/standing water due to the weather conditions.
Temporary traffic signals are in place at some locations for safety reasons whilst highways assesses the network.
The Government's Flood Information website said at 1.21pm today (Wednesday): "River levels have risen across the River Bollin catchment as a result of persistent heavy rainfall.
"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low-lying land and roads around the areas of Knutsford, Wilmslow, Hale, Macclesfield and Bollington.
"We expect river levels to rise throughout the day due to further rainfall forecast. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue flood warnings if necessary."
