MORE than £5000 was raised for St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston by Girlguiding groups across south Cumbria.

Hundreds of girls and adults undertook ‘30 days of care’, completing a challenge each day for 30 days.

These challenges were chosen from one of four sections: care for oneself; care for others; care for the community; and care for the environment.

Participants did things ranging from litter picking through to potting plants for the community and making and decorating cakes to sell.

The girls had lots of fun doing the challenges, with 10 year-old Zara Clough, from Lindal Brownies saying: “It was great raising money for St Mary’s Hospice because when I washed the car I soaked my dad with the hose.”

During a celebratory event at Ulverston Victoria High School a cheque for £5097.49 was handed over to Clare Paling, area fundraiser for St Mary’s Hospice.
