ST WILFRID’S Church in Mobberley is playing host today, Saturday, to a summer concert featuring vocalist Marika Metiuk, accompanied by David Carlston Williams.

The evening features songs from musicals and films, and starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10, which includes a glass of wine or soft drink, and children under 16 are admitted free.

Marika, from Rossendale, began her musical journey at Edenfield Parish Church.

At seven years old, she joined the choir there. She went on to attain various awards from the RSCM, which included the Dean’s & Bishop’s Awards, and the junior St Cecilia Award.

She attended various summer schools at Chethams, School of Music in Manchester, where she sung with other choristers from around the country, performing daily in Manchester Cathedral, for the Evensong services.

At 14 Marika was accepted into The Royal Northern College of Music, Junior School where she studied voice and piano, and sang in an ensemble group.

She continued as a chorister at her Church in Edenfield, and joined two other choirs, in Manchester – Manchester Cantata Choir and the Hallé youth choir.

Marika then moved to Bangor, North Wales, where she attained her Music degree at the University there. Upon her return to Lancashire, she joined the Hallé choir where she sang regularly at the Bridgewater Hall.

She also had the opportunity to perform in The Proms at The Royal Albert Hall. Marika has performed at weddings, churches, charity concerts and various public events.

In her spare time, Marika sings with an a-cappella ensemble & enjoys playing and teaching the piano.
