Ahead of Friday's game, Saints stated that stewards were to be strategically placed in and amongst the fans to ensure that "a zero tolerance policy" towards flares was in place following an incident at Warrington two weeks previously.

The incident, which took place in the Saints away end at Halliwell Jones Stadium in which flares were set off, had led to widespread condemnation.

Saints said they were to ban those responsible for the incident.

In the wake of Friday's incident, a Saints spokesman said: "One Wigan fan was ejected from the stadium having been identified as responsible for setting off a flare.

"This has been reported to Wigan Warriors for them to take further action."

Meanwhile, the club confirmed that two fans were spoken to following an alleged disturbance in the South Stand during Friday;'s match.

The spokesman added: "The alleged incident in the south stand was an argument between two fans and both have been spoken to with no further action taken."

Friday's match was Saints' third victory over Wigan this season to record a 'clean sweep' over their rivals in the league.
