SECOND Holmes Chapel Guides have become Friends of Dementia.

A total of 29 Guides from the unit have joined the increasing number of organisations and businesses becoming involved in the Holmes Chapel Partnership project to make the village dementia-friendly.

The Guides spent part of one of their meetings finding out about the challenges of people living with dementia, and as well as taking part in discussion played a thought-provoking game to increase their understanding of this disease.

The Memory Café was delighted to accept a kind invitation from Hazel and Peter Sutcliffe to go and enjoy their garden over a cup of coffee.

Fortunately the rain stayed away, and the wide variety of plants and colourful rhododendrons offered much enjoyment as people wandered through the garden, with some taking on the challenge of a game of croquet.

Several went home with a jar of Hazel and Peter’s honey, the proceeds of which were given to the fundraising from Holmes Chapel for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Memory Café takes place at the Methodist Church on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 10am to noon.

Although it is particularly welcome for those living with dementia, anyone feeling like a morning out and a cup of coffee and chat can visit.

There are opportunities to be creative, to join in a singsong and play skittles, and for details call 01477 537679.
