POLICE are offering advice on how to protect yourself against scammers after a 48-year-old Knutsford woman was tricked out of £20,000.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said the woman was phoned by a man who claimed to work for BT Cybercrime, and told her that her computer had been hacked.
He said: “He then convinced the victim to download software to her machine, which allowed him to access her bank account. He then went on to steal more than £20,000 from her account.”
