THE hunt is on to track down the family of an Second World War soldier after the trail went cold in Prestatyn.

On a recent visit to a Countess of Chester Hospital Car Boot sale Alan Parker, of Ellesmere Port, recently uncovered a trove of personal belongings – including hundreds of photographs – of RAF serviceman Terence Sheppard Parry.

Following a trail of clues, including an address at 1 Ash Grove, Fern Avenue, Prestatyn included in a Service and Release book, Mr Parker is seeking any Journal readers who may be able to help him locate Mr Parry’s relatives to return the effects to their rightful owners.

Mr Parker said: “Whilst looking at some ephemera found a considerable amount of photographs, a Travel Identity Card, a Royal Air force Service and Release book belonging to a Terence Sheppard Parry.

“From the documents, it shows that Mr Parry served in the RAF between 1942 and 1947 and served in Hyderabad, India and his trade was a Model Maker.

"I’m hoping to find relatives of Mr Parry as we think these items are of huge sentimental value and we felt that we must try and locate his children or grandchildren and pass these items on.“

Along with the documents – which list his date of birth as July 23 1924 and his service number as 2202289 - are dozens of photographs from his service in India and what appears to be Malaysia.

The documents also show Mr Parry was demobbed at RAF Sealand, near Chester, on October 24 1947 before moving to 1 Bates Terrace, in Llanasa, Flintshire.

“I’ve been to the house on Ash Grove and have been told by the occupants that they didn’t recognise the name, but we then knocked on a few neighbours’ doors and spoke to a couple whose elderly relative knew a Parry who moved from No1 Ash Grove to somewhere on Ffordlass Prestatyn.

“After knocking on a few doors on Ffordlass and explaining ourselves we were invited in by a really nice lady and gentleman who said that there used to be a Parry living opposite them, but after looking at the photographs, it didn’t appear to be the same Parry, just a coincidence.

“Now I’ve reached a dead end. I hope someone might be able to help locate the relatives of Mr Terence Sheppard Parry so that we can pass these important items on and hope they get handed down to future generations of his family.”

Any family members who may wish to claim belongings, to anyone who may have any information about Mr Parry can contacted Mr Parker through The Journal via duncan.rieder@newsquest.co.uk.
