THE operator of a proposed Hartford care home is looking to allay concerns surrounding the new development, after the planning application received dozens of objections.

Award-winning developer New Care submitted plans for a 70-bedroom care home in Chester Road last month, which would see three homes demolished and five new ones built.

The purpose-built facility would, New Care says, go some way to addressing the care 'crisis' in the UK.

CEO Chris McGoff said: “We have a strong understanding of the care sector and are committed to improving standards of care across the UK by delivering fit-for-purpose schemes where there is a well-documented shortage.

Northwich Guardian:

“We are extremely proud of what we do and are confident that this new development will be a welcome addition to care provision in the local area.

“However, we do understand that there have been some queries about the proposals and are happy to answer questions that local people may have.

"We invest a great deal of time in the development of our homes to ensure that they enhance the local street scene and complement the local vernacular and give careful consideration to the overall size of the building, staffing and traffic implications to ensure that we exceed the required standards.”

The home would be built over two storeys, offering residential, nursing and specialist dementia care.

Each of the 70 bedrooms would have a wet room, with communal lounges, elegant dining rooms, spa-assisted bathrooms and landscaped gardens within the home's grounds.

There would also be a hair salon and nail bar as well as fine dining, concierge services and a varied programme of activities and events.

Objections to the plans on the Cheshire West and Chester Council planning portal include fears over scale, traffic, and parking.

Northwich Guardian:

Associate director at infrastructure experts SCP Transport, Gemma Wheatley, said a maximum of 10 car trips per hour were anticipated, with around 27 members of staff on site at one time.

She said around 50 per cent of staff at other New Care developments drive to work, with others walking, cycling or using public transport.

Gemma added: "The proposed car parking of 28 spaces is very generous and exceeds council requirements.

"Cheshire West parking standards only require 18 spaces, meaning that at least half the car park will be available for visitors at all times while leaving ample space for refuse vehicles, deliveries and ambulances to turn.”

Chris added: “We are very happy to share the plans for the proposed development in Hartford with any interested members of the local community.

Northwich Guardian:

"It has always been our policy to build our care facilities in the heart of local communities so the elderly and infirm can continue to live and play an inclusive role in the wider community that has always been their home and we look forward to bringing one of our award winning care facilities to Hartford.”
