PUPILS at Manor Park Primary School and Nursery are very quick off the mark when it comes to answering multiplying questions.
Year 4 children have taken part in the new multiplication tables check the Government has introduced across the country.
The check this year was voluntary, and is to support schools in preparation for next year, when it becomes mandatory.
Headteacher Simon Cotterill said: “The aim of the multiplication tables check is to determine whether year 4 pupils can fluently recall their times tables, up to and including the 12 multiplication table, and show precision and fluency in their work.

“The check consists of 25 multiplication questions delivered via an online portal. The children are timed, and have six seconds to answer each question.
“The children at Manor Park have obviously worked extremely hard learning their multiplication and division facts from entering the school, and have reaped the benefits this year.
“Just over 80 per cent of the children achieved 100 per cent in the check, with 96 per cent achieving 80 per cent or greater, and the class had an average of 24 correct answers out of 25.
“To achieve such strong results, all children at Manor Park take part in daily Times Table Rockstars sessions, which helps them to develop the speed and accuracy of their multiplication recall.

“The children can access a variety of devices from the newly- equipped full-size computing suite with 31 computers to using laptops and iPads in classes.
“At the start of their journey the class average recall speed for each correct answer was 10.18 seconds; their average accurate recall speed now is 2.41 seconds.

“The school also opens early on four mornings each week for Years 2 and 3 children to practice.
“I am so proud of our children for achieving these scores, and am also incredibly pleased with our school’s performance when compared to figures I have seen nationally.

Pupil Toby Kelsall-Wood was the fastest in the school in terms of the time each child answers a question correctly, at 0.72 seconds, followed by Leighton Graham (0.84), Amelia Waterworth (1.28), Vanisha Biju (1.34), Megan Morrilly (1.41) and Aiden Carr (1.49).
