SHOP windows in Knutsford will be blooming with colourful displays for the floral walk through the town with judges from the Royal Horticultural Society ahead of next week’s flower show at Tatton Park.

Knutsford businesses are invited to flex their green fingers and take part to get into the spirit of the RHS Flower Show, following the continued success of the annual best dressed window competition.

Each participating business produces a fun and creative floral display either following the RHS theme or by creating a display to represent their business in a unique way.

The optional theme for this year is a green eco theme, encouraging use of recycled materials and to promote cleaning the air, eco travel and recycling.

The RHS promote the entries on their social media accounts, which have 500,000 followers by retweeting photos of the beautiful displays, offering a great platform for promotion for participating businesses.

The entrants are judged on criteria including originality, colour scheme and wow factor, and a winner is selected and presented with a prize.

The winner in 2018 was Clare and Illingworth, which created a beehive display to tie in with the 2018 bee theme.

The displays will be installed over the next week ahead of the launch of RHS Tatton Flower Show which runs from Wednesday, July 17 to Sunday, July 20 at Tatton Park.

The judges will enjoy a floral walk through town to look at the displays on the opening day of the show and a winner will be presented shortly after the close of the show.

In addition to the RHS-judged competition, the town council also runs a public vote competition, where photos of each participating business will be uploaded to their Facebook page for members of the public to vote for their favourite.

The winner of this competition in 2018 was The Old Sessions House which created a giant bee mural mounted on the front of the building.

Voting for this competition will open on Wednesday, July 17 and be open until the end of Sunday, July 20, with the winners presented with a prize by the Mayor of Knutsford Cllr Andrew Malloy, early the following week.
