AN animal rescue centre run by volunteers is seeking forever homes for a wave of kittens and cats.

Tails Animal Rescue has been ‘inundated’ with litters of kittens in recent weeks, on top of a number of older cats – all of whom live with volunteers and foster homes until they find a new owner.

As well as a higher number of new arrivals, the group has seen its website taken down, meaning they cannot advertise the kittens to a wider audience.

One volunteer, John Ashworth from Rudheath, is currently looking after 19 kittens.

He said: “We are inundated with kittens at the moment.

“We’re a very small unit, and unfortunately the website has been hacked which takes out key advertising for us.”

The group, based primarily across Rudheath and Barnton, is currently taking in more animals than it can rehome due to a spike in litters.

“We seem to be getting more kittens all year round – it’s really strange,” John said.

“We’re all volunteers and no one is paid except by the pleasure of dealing with the animals. I’m so grateful to each and every one of them – they put in 100 per cent and they’re brilliant people.”

John added that anyone looking to rehome a cat should think carefully about the commitment beyond the kitten stage and over a possible period of 20 years.
