WORK has started on a new cycle and pedestrian route linking new homes in Winnington with the town centre.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has worked with Northwich Town Council to create plans for the link between Castle Street and Winnington Avenue via Verdin Park.
The scheme has been funded as part of new development in Winnington, and involves path widening through Verdin Park, the installation of wheel ramps over the old railway footbridge and the installation of a new pedestrian crossing on Moss Road.
Other improvements will be undertaken to the existing footpath along this route.
The scheme has been programmed in phases in order to minimise disruption.
Works have started on Birdcage Walk and will then continue through the park including the installation of the Moss Road pedestrian crossing.

CWAC deputy leader and portfolio holder for environment, highways and strategic transport, Cllr Karen Shore, said: “The new cycleway will help promote cycling and walking between Northwich and Winnington through Verdin Park.
"The route will improve accessibility for residents and will be a great leisure facility.”
The new route supports the council’s Active Travel initiatives for health and wellbeing, and will link the future regeneration of Verdin Park.
