BARONS Quay has ‘turned a corner’ with further tenant announcements expected in the coming months, a councillor has said.

Cllr Sam Naylor, Cheshire West and Chester Council member for the town centre, told fellow town council members that the development was attracting more retailers.

Cllr Naylor chairs the Northwich regeneration forum, which is made up of three Labour councillors and three from the Conservatives.

He said: “We have got four years now to continue with the regeneration in the town centre, focusing on Barons Quay and Weaver Square. We all share the same vision for the future of our town and that is to make it a success.”

The Guardian understands retail store Flannels is set to exchange on the unit next to H&M.

Northwich Guardian:

1 Flannels; 2 H&M; 3 Entertainer; 4 Asda; 5 Sports Direct; 6 Card Factory; 8 soft play; 9 Wildwood; 10 BQ Social; 11 Odeon; * ‘under offer’

Cllr Naylor said: “I think we have turned a corner.

“Two organisations are competing for one unit in Barons Quay – that’s a really good sign.

“All these people saying it’s never going to work, we have got half a dozen companies in the pipeline and two announcements coming in the near future. It will take time, clearly, but I am more optimistic about the future of this town now than I have been for a very long time.”

Cllr Richard Beacham, CWAC cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We’re delighted to confirm that eight units are currently under offer and in solicitors hands, including Flannels, meaning that we will potentially have some really exciting announcements over the coming months. Flannels would be a great addition to Barons Quay.”

Flannels is a high-end retailer owned by Sports Direct, selling luxury cloth-ing for up to thousands of pounds.
