RESIDENTS at Daneside Mews enjoyed crafting and entertainment as part of their Care Home Open Day celebrations.

The national initiative, held on Friday, June 28, also saw town mayor CLlr Kevin Rimmer attend the Chesterway home along with children from Victoria Road and Charles Darwin primary schools.

The day started with a creative craft session for residents, joined by a class of schoolchildren who took part in the craft session and also chatted and played outdoor games in the garden with residents.

As part of HC-One’s ‘Celebrating Art in Care’ theme, the group created a big piece of art featuring butterflies and flowers, set to go on display soon.

After lunch, residents were visited by an ice cream van, and resident entertainer Les Martin came to sing and entertain as residents were joined by another class of schoolchildren.

During the day a raffle and tombola also took place.

Cllr Rimmer said: “I’ve had a lovely visit and look forward to coming again. It’s been lovely to see the interactions between the residents and visiting schoolchildren.”

After a buffet tea at 4.30pm, residents let off helium balloons for a balloon race.

Home manager Joanne Farrell said: “It’s been fantastic to see our residents join in with a crafting session, playing games in our garden and singing along with our afternoon entertainment.”
