MUM Kayla Sellors is inviting fellow parents with children with additional needs to attend a new support group she set up.

Kayla started the family support group at The Welcome Community Hub at Longridge after struggling to access the support she needed for her children in Knutsford.

Kayla said: “I found that most coffee mornings for parents were in the big towns such Macclesfield and Crewe, and it just wasn't practical for me to attend.

“I also was keen to meet with other local parents, and noticed that they weren't aware of what services were out there to help them.

“When I heard that The Welcome wanted to set up a parent carer coffee morning I eagerly volunteered to run it as I already had a few links from volunteering with the Parent Carer Forum.

“I am amazed by the level of support from services who are joining us and from the local community.

“I hope we can keep the momentum rolling and make it bigger and better each month so we can support even more families in Knutsford.”

The new monthly meet-up is for parents and carers with children with additional needs.

The group meets every second Friday of the month, except August, from 9.30am to 11.30am, and brings together local parents and services in Cheshire which can support families.

Services which have attended so far include CHaPS (Cheshire Autism Practical Support), CEIAS (Cheshire East Independent Advice Service; please call for bookable slots on 0300 123 5166), Cheshire East Parent Carer Forum (CEPCF), the Short breaks team and the mental health charity Visyon.

As well as finding out more about what help is available the group also brings families together to share their experiences, and offers access to a play area for children and free refreshments.
