WARRINGTON Town have pulled off a massive coup by convincing highly-rated youngster Ben Garrity to stay with the club.

Despite offers from clubs as high up as the Football League, the sought-after 21-year-old has penned a two-year deal to remain at Cantilever Park.

Garrity’s future has been a talking point throughout the summer after a stellar first season in the Evo-Stik Premier Division having been spotted playing for Liverpool amateur side Oyster AFC.

His eight goals from central midfield – including two in the ‘super play-off’ defeat to King’s Lynn Town – had clubs clamouring for his services but Yellows manager Paul Carden can now plan for the 2019/20 campaign with him in his side.

“The fact he’s agreed to sign for two years is massive, massive news,” he said.

“I couldn’t have replaced him, whatever the amount of money I had.

“The biggest compliment I can pay Ben is that he is irreplaceable for us.

“Even on a bad day for Ben Garrity, he’s still a seven out of ten because he works so hard for the team.

“This time last summer, we were bringing Ben in as an unknown quantity.

“It was evident then how good he was – his enthusiasm in training and for training itself was infectious.

“He was a breath of fresh air from day one and his performances got stronger and stronger over the season.

“We’ve had the nucleus of the squad sign on for next year and every single player has asked what Ben is doing.

“That shows how much he is liked, respected and valued by his teammates.”

Carden confirmed there had been interest in Garrity from professional sides and that he had been happy to act on his behalf in discussions about a move to a bigger club.

However, the Town boss was keen to stress to his young star that he should not act in haste and take a deal that was not right for him.

“There’s been interest in him throughout the summer and some of it has ended disappointingly for him,” he said.

“What’s meant to be will happen for him. He realises he’s in a good place with people who he likes, respects and trusts.

“I was prepared to take him to meet a league club this week, but it hasn’t materialised. He’s realised I’ve got his best interests at heart.

“Moving to a club in the league above or two leagues above might have been okay, but I think he’s better than that.

“He had offers on the table that weren’t right for him and Ben’s felt that.

“The main thing is he’s committed to us.”
