THE Knutsford Beer Festival team have revealed that the 2019 event raised £10,000 for charity as they prepare to raise a glass to National Beer Day on Saturday.

This year’s chosen charities are Knutsford Royal May Day and Children’s Adventure Farm Trust who will be receiving £4,500 each while the remaining £1,000 has been used to set up a new community fund.

The community fund will be open to smaller charities and community groups in the area who can apply for funds to support their projects throughout the year.

Andrew Malloy, chairman of Knutsford Beer Festival and recently elected Town Mayor, said: “We at the Knutsford Beer Festival have been keen to support causes and charities in the area since the very beginning.

“Often smaller causes can slip under the radar and even a small amount of money can mean a great deal, help them achieve their goals, and help support local people.”

Meanwhile, the festival has welcomed three new members to its organising committee.

Ben Selby, from Dexter and Jones, is the event’s expert in craft beer and gin, Lisa Benskin will support the administrative running of the festival and Jonathan Farber will lead on photography and film.

Ben said: “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience of managing Dexter and Jones to the beer festival team.

“This year’s expanded range of craft beer on keg was a highlight of the festival for me, so to be asked to help with this area for next year is an honour.

“I hope I can follow up on the amazing work that has already been done, but put a little Dexter and Jones charm on the event too.”

This year’s fifth festival took place between April 11 and 13 at new venue The Courthouse.

It was attended by 1,000 people with many sessions selling out.

The date for next year’s beer festival is to be announced very soon but an even bigger selection of beer, a dedicated gin bar, a fizz station and a wider selection of food are in the plans.

The new and popular masterclasses will also be returning for the Saturday afternoon session.
