PUBLIC consultation is underway on multi-million pound plans to regenerate two Halton Lea estates.

Housing association Riverside announced in February that it is to invest £20million in Hallwood Park and Palace Fields over 10 years.

Local residents were invited to share their views on how the money would be best invested and so far 220 residents from both estates have aired their views.

The first set of consultation events was held in February when Riverside began asking people to discuss what changes they want to see on both estates to see to create a thriving and healthy community for the future.

A second round of engagement events is taking place over the next two weeks to get residents' thoughts on a range of issues including closing the subways, creating employment opportunities, tackling fly tipping and providing dog bins.

A drop-in session for residents living in Palace Fields and Hallwood Park is taking place on

Saturday, June 1 from 10am to 3pm at Shopping City's Ping-pong parlour.

Dean Butterworth, Riverside's regional director, said: "We are delighted by the huge response from residents, which has given us an opportunity to hear what changes they would like to see on the new estates.

"This is a long-term project and we are in the early stages so nothing is drawn up as yet.

"We are committed to supporting real change to the area and it is important that residents have their say on what they would to see in the area renewal plan for the next 10 years.

"It is crucial that residents are part of the journey every step of the way."

Last month Riverside launched £50,000 funding pot which attracted a huge response from voluntary organisations and charity groups, who could bid on a share of the money to help improve the two areas to tackle issues such as loneliness and social isolation, setting up learning programmes and reducing anti-social behaviour.

The housing association, which owns and manages more than 1,000 homes in the area, has set up a survey to help gather resident’s thoughts and hear what matters to them.

Visit www.riverside.org.uk/haltonlea for access to the on-line survey.

Anyone unable to make the engagement events or needing support for a paper survey to be delivered to them and collected at a later date by the Riverside Team can contact hp.pf.enquiry@riverside.org.uk or 0345 111 0000. The survey closes at 9am on June 3.
