A DETERMINED woman from Grappenhall is taking on a gruelling 12k obstacle course in memory of her cousin and grandad.

Dan Evans, a talented member of Warrington Athletics Club, died in a tragic accident in 2017.

His cousin Mollie Crewe is taking part in the Total Warrior 12k in the hope to raise money for Warrington Athletics Club and Cancer Research UK.

Mollie, 22, works as a medical records clerk at Spire Cheshire Hospital in Stretton and spoke candidly about how tough the last two years have been for her family.

She said: "The past two years have been the toughest years of my life, due to losing my grandad to lung cancer and tragically losing my cousin Dan.

"My auntie Jane, who also works at Spire Cheshire Hospital, has just received the devastating news that her cancer has returned after being in remission for five years.

"Jane is a big part of the team at Spire Cheshire Hospital and we’re all really positive that she has beaten this awful disease once, she can do it again.”

Warrington Athletics Club holds a very special place in the family’s heart.

Dan and Mollie were members of the club from a young age and competed in many competitions across the UK together.

Mollie added: "Dan was by far the best athlete I have ever known.

"He found a passion for cross country during primary school and competed in the Walton Garden races, he won the overall trophy the first year he competed.

"Dan represented Cheshire Schools and Warrington, Cheshire, the north west and England in cross country competitions.

"He then went on to be the Cheshire cross country champion, the northern XC champion, the national XC champion and the UK inter-counties champion.

"And not to forget the numerous gold Cheshire track medals, 800m, 1500m, track relays, road relays and XC relays.

"He lived and breathed athletics and loved team events.”

Mollie started training at the beginning of March and the closer it gets to June the more excited but nervous she is becoming. She said: "Focusing on my training and taking part in Total Warrior is helping me get through the hard times.

"I am proud knowing that people are supporting and donating to both of my chosen charities.”
