GROWING demand to re-launch Chelford Rainbow Guiding unit for girls aged five to seven has led to plans for a new group in the village.

The Rainbow Unit closed several years ago due to lack of leaders.

The sole Rainbow Guider, Sue Roycroft, went on to join Chelford Brownies, where she supports Brown Owl Alison Richardson in running 1st Chelford Brownie Pack.

Alderley Edge Guiding District now hopes to re-open the Rainbow Unit, to join Chelford Brownies and Chelford Guide unit in offering Guiding in Chelford from the age of five to 14, when girls go on to Senior Section/Rangers elsewhere in the District.

The search is now on for adult leaders, aged 18 and above, who would be willing to start the unit with a small group of girls.

All potential unit leaders would be trained and supported by Girlguiding UK, and mentored and helped by existing Guiders in the area.

Rainbows is the youngest section for Guiding in the UK. If anyone is interested in finding out more about helping to run a Rainbow unit in Chelford, email Alderley Edge District secretary Amanda Spedding on bobspedding@aol.com.

Volunteer inquiries can also be registered with Alderley Edge District through the Girlguiding website.

If anyone has a daughter aged four or five who might be interested in joining Rainbows locally, email Alison Richardson on Bembridge@dsl.pipex.com or call 07885 804246.
