FRIENDS Ali Comline and Ros Mabbott will be sporting their bras as they take on the challenge of completing two marathons in just 14 hours.

Ali and Ros, from Knutsford, are taking part in the Over The Moon Ultra challenge in Edinburgh, Walk the Walk’s unique ultra-marathon and the longest Moon Walk distance.

Walk the Walk is the largest grant-making breast cancer charity in the UK, and came into being in 1996 when 13 women Power Walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

The charity was founded by Nina Barough, who woke one morning with what seemed like a fun idea to Power Walk the New York City Marathon in decorated bras to raise money for a good cause.

What started out as a one-off fundraising event has grown into a multi-million pound charity, raising to date £100 million for breast cancer causes.

“We have made the rash decision to take on not just one marathon at The Moon Walk Scotland, but two marathons, all within 14 hours on Saturday, June 8,” said Ali.

“We hope to see the beautiful city of Edinburgh not once, but twice, once by night and once by day. The challenge is to walk 52.4 miles in under 14 hours and survive!

“This is the ultimate Moon Walk endurance challenge, and we’re doing this to raise money for breast cancer, a cause close to our hearts.”

Ali is a specialist teacher, and Ros works in palliative care. Both have children at Bexton Primary School and Knutsford Academy.

“We will be starting at 11.30pm, and will be among about 40 women who are doing the double marathon,” said Ali.

“We both do a lot of walking, and love being in the mountains. We’re a bit daunted by this challenge, but are very determined.

“We have to do four miles an hour to complete the challenge in 14 hours, and will need to keep hydrated and fuelled along the way.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who is supporting us, and Cottons Hotel has given us a day’s spa pass for when we come back.”
