TOWN councillors will be kept in order thanks to the woodturning skills of David Bryant.
David, from Knutsford, made a gavel and base for town mayor Cllr Peter Coan after attending a recent mayoral reception for voluntary groups in the town.
David, a retired mechanical engineer and registered professional woodturner, asked Cllr Coan if he would like him to make a gavel for the mayor.
Cllr Coan was delighted to accept, and David made a gavel and base from ash over three days.
Cllr Coan said: “I would like to extend a huge thankyou to David for making and presenting me with this fantastic gavel.
“I will enjoy using it, and intend to loan it to the town council to help my successor and committee chairmen maintain good order at our meetings.”
David has turned his hand to making numerous items, including spinning wheels, chairs and a chinoiserie table, and has written four books on furniture, Wheels and Looms, The Traditional Furniture Maker, Wooden Clock Cases. and Classic Country Chairs.
He is chairman of Knutsford Rex Probus Club, and has also made an ash gavel for the club.
