THE second annual Paul Lavelle Foundation 10K run will return to Hoylake this bank holiday.

Following on from the success of last year, the run on Saturday, May 25, is a great family-orientated day for all ages, coming together in memory of Paul Lavelle.

Paul, 50, from Rock Ferry, was killed by his girlfriend Sarah Lewis after she attacked him with a broken dinner plate in May 2017.

Lewis was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Paul's friends have honoured his memory by setting up The Paul Lavelle Foundation to raise awareness of domestic abuse involving men.

The 10K run is just one of the many events the charity has organised in a bid to spread their message.

A spokesman for the charity said: "The Paul Lavelle Foundation is hosting the second annual 10k/5k run following the success of last year.

"The charity has been set up to raise awareness towards domestic violence, in particular for male victims.

"The charity also helps other local charities within the Merseyside area for various other causes.

"There is a golden mile run for children that starts at 9am, then the 10am race starts for both the 10k and 5k.

"Time chips are provided, so come and set a new personal best!"

The fastest male and female runners of the 10K will be presented with the coveted Paul Lavelle Cup.

There is also a team of six from the charity running the Liverpool Marathon on Sunday, May 26 to raise cash for Claire House.

An annual family fun day in Paul's memory will also be held at Prenton Rugby Club from 1pm on May 26.

Foundation chairman Paul Gladwell said: "After discussions we decided that this would be our tribute for Paul and hope the smiles that get raised in Paul’s name during the fun day and 10K can somehow help ease the pain Paul’s family suffer at this time of year.

"Paul made so many smiles for people so it’s fitting his name shall be spoken and remembered by so many with happy events like these."
