A WOMAN was rescued last night after falling down a cave shaft at Nether Alderley.

The woman was 60 metres down the shaft, and the rescue teams used lighting, a trauma pack and height safety gear while working to locate and rescue her.

Fire crews from Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Lymm were called just before 10pm to land off Macclesfield Road following reports of a woman having fallen down a shaft.

The teams, including the Lymm rope rescue and HART team, worked with Derbyshire Cave Rescue Team at the incident.

The woman was treated while underground and placed into a rope rescue harness. She was then hoisted up the cave shaft and handed over to paramedics to be assessed.
